Pilot Kiosk Project Offers a Court Computer Workstation for Members of the Public to Attend Virtual Court Hearings

The Miami-Dade Courts are proud to announce the launch of the Pilot Kiosk Project at the South Dade Justice Center on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Similar to the computer workstations accessed by patrons at many public libraries, the Kiosk is a computer workstation with desk and chair where those who do not have their own computers or other technology to participate in virtual court proceedings may do so by calling in advance to reserve a time slot at the Kiosk. To request a reservation, hearing participants should call 305-971-5092.

The Pilot Kiosk Project will be located in the Family Court Self-Help Program area on the first floor of the South Dade Justice Center, located at 10710 SW 211 Street. Detailed written instructions will be available at the workstation. A court staff member will be available for those who may need additional assistance in using the Kiosk.

“We know that not everyone may have access to a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone to participate in Zoom court hearings by video, so we hope that the Kiosks will be a helpful resource for those individuals,” said the Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, the Miami-Dade Courts.

Based on the results of the Pilot Kiosk Project, the Miami-Dade Courts will consider expanding the project with additional workstations and locations in the future.

The Kiosks will be sanitized between uses. All those who use the Kiosk must wear a mask, maintain social distance, and follow all other health safety procedures required under the Courts’ Phase 2 COVID-19 Emergency Operations.

Virtual Court hearings on Zoom will continue to remain accessible to the public via audio only, where the hearing participant needs only a telephone to dial in to the proceedings.
