Access to Justice Initiative
Collaboration with the Haitian Lawyers Association
MIAMI – In further support of Access to Justice Initiatives, the Miami-Dade County Law Library would like to announce a joint collaboration with the Haitian Lawyers Association. An attorney from the Haitian Lawyers Association (HLA) will be available to help self-represented litigants fill out legal forms on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the law library on the 3rd floor in room 321.
In addition to HLA, the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) provides foreclosure assistance to people with low and modest incomes from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, Tuesday through Thursday. These services are available on a first come, first served basis. The Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD) will resume providing assistance with Foreclosure, Landlord Tenant, Bankruptcy, Ejectment, and Unlawful Detainer cases in January 2018.
The Miami-Dade County Law Library is the only public law library in Miami-Dade County. It is located downtown in the Miami-Dade County Courthouse at 73 West Flagler Street, Miami, Florida 33130. It serves the legal community and the public. All of the librarians are licensed attorneys and hold Masters Degrees in Library Science and its diverse staff provides services in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. It is the one of the few public law libraries in the Florida, if not the only, that provides these type of services to the self-represented litigants. The Miami-Dade County Law Library is committed to its guiding principle that, “access to the law is essential to the administration of justice.”
“By working collaboratively, we will be able to make meaningful progress
toward closing the civil justice gap.” – Justice Labarga
