The Office of Government Liaison and Public Relations and the Administrative Office of the Courts, in partnership with the judges and staff of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida and its justice partners – the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, the Miami-Dade Regional Counsel’s Office, the Miami-Dade Corrections Department, and the Miami-Dade Police Department – invite the children of our “courthouse family” to participate in special programs on Bring Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, Friday, Feb. 2nd. The programs aim to help our young visitors discover the world of the justice system and future career possibilities here. Activities will include mock trials and opportunities for Q&A with some of our judges and court staff.
This year’s theme is Being Agents of Positive Change. Agents of positive change take advantage of the opportunities that come their way to help others and work hard to ensure the future is brighter for everyone. The Eleventh Judicial Circuit’s Bring Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day will show how the courts and their justice partners work together to serve as agents of positive change for the Miami-Dade community by protecting rights, helping citizens peacefully resolve disputes, and helping individuals seek justice for crimes committed against them.
As in previous years, department directors maintain discretion to determine activities for the visiting children of their staff members, therefore events may vary by court facility. The two programs listed here will be offered at the Dade County Courthouse and the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building. The age range approved by Miami-Dade Public Schools for excused absences is between the ages of 8 and 18; however, this may vary by individual school. Therefore, parents are encouraged to contact their children’s schools and/or teachers to ensure their absence on February 2nd will be excused.
