The Honorable Myriam Lehr of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit's County Civil Division was named the 2022 recipient of the Women Making History Award, presented by the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Miami-Dade Chapter (MDFAWL).
The Women Making History Award is presented each year during the month of March - Women's History Month - in recognition of professional achievement, perseverance, and dedication to women's issues. "Her accomplishments and passion pave the way for the new women leaders of today's generation. She is a trailblazer," the MDFAWL Award reads.
Judge Lehr has served on the Eleventh Circuit Bench since 1997 and currently presides at the North Dade Justice Center in the County Civil Division. As former Associate Administrative Judge of that division, she helped develop and implement procedures for virtual court proceedings and electronic submission of evidence in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among her many contributions to the community, she served as the Florida State Chair of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) for 6 years, and in that capacity took a leadership role in The Color of Justice program, which brought together judges, lawyers and young girls and minorities to encourage them to consider legal careers. Judge Lehr also co-founded the North Dade Justice Partnership Program with the Law Academy of the Alonzo and Tracey Mourning High School, and continues to be a key organizer of the yearly Law Day program at the North Dade Justice Center.
Judge Lehr is also past recipient of the "Women of Vision" Award from the American Committee for the Weitzman Institute of Science, the Devorah Judge Award from the Miami Jewish Legal Society, and the Dade County Bar Association's Judicial Lifetime Achievement Award.
Joining Judge Lehr at the MDFAWL Awards ceremony on March 31, 2022, were special guests from the Florida Supreme Court and some of her Eleventh Circuit colleagues: Justice John Couriel, Chief Judge Nushin Sayfie, Former Chief Judge Bertila Soto, Judge Linda Singer Stein, Judge Lisa Walsh, Judge Lody Jean, Judge Spencer Multack, Judge Carroll Kelly, Judge Jeffrey Kolokoff, and Retired Judge Caryn Canner Schwartz.
