In Memory of Third District Court of Appeal and Retired Circuit Judge
Eric William Hendon
The Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida joins family members and friends in mourning the passing of Third District Court of Appeal and Retired Circuit Court Judge Eric William Hendon.
Judge Hendon was appointed to the Third District Court of Appeal in 2018 by then-Governor Rick Scott, where he served until his passing on February 26, 2024.
Prior to that, the Eleventh Circuit was fortunate to count Judge Hendon as one of its own.
In December 1999, then-Governor Jeb Bush appointed Judge Hendon to the County Court, where he heard civil matters including small claims, landlord-tenant, and domestic violence cases up until 2003, when he retired from the Circuit to join the Office of the Attorney General of Florida.
As an Assistant Attorney General, Judge Hendon helped to enforce the Florida Civil Rights Act.
Following his tenure there, Judge Hendon went into private practice focusing on Family and Criminal law, and returned to the Eleventh Circuit Bench in March of 2006, after being appointed to the County Court once again by then-Governor Bush.
Judge Hendon served on the County Court from 2006 until November of 2012, when he was elevated to the Circuit Court by then-Governor Rick Scott.
During his time on the Circuit Court Bench from 2012 through 2018, Judge Hendon served with distinction in the Civil and Criminal Divisions.
The Eleventh Circuit family will deeply miss Judge Hendon and will always remember him for his kind and gentle demeanor, his devotion to the law, and his contributions to our courts and our community.
