COVID-19 Advisory #85: Miami-Dade Courts to Expand In-Person Court Proceedings Following Florida Supreme Court Guidance

The Miami-Dade Courts look forward to expanding in-person court proceedings in the near future, as allowed by CDC guidelines and following guidance issued by the Florida Supreme Court in its most recent COVID-19 Administrative Order issued this past Friday afternoon.

“The Florida Supreme Court has established a window from June 21 to August 2nd for the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions such as the wearing of masks and social distancing in Florida’s courts. Thanks to this new guidance, we are happy to announce that we will be expanding in-person trials and other court proceedings in the near future,” said the Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Miami-Dade Courts.

Under Florida Supreme Court Administrative Order AOSC21-17, courts should continue to conduct remote court proceedings as needed in order to process cases most efficiently while allowing courtroom space and resources to be used for in-person trials. Criminal trials will take precedence.

Current court protocols are being revised as a result of this new guidance and will be published soon.

The full text of Florida Supreme Court Administrative Order AOSC21-17 is downloadable from the link below.

The Miami-Dade Courts will continue to operate under Phase 2 COVID-19 Emergency Operations until the new procedures are implemented.
