MIAMI-DADE BOOT CAMP CADETS TO GRADUATE
ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20TH
Cadets from the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department Boot Camp Program Platoon 18-1 will graduate at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in Courtroom 4-1 of the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Center, 1351 NW 12 St., Miami, FL, 33125.
This graduating class consists of young men and women between the ages of 18 and 26 who are currently in custody and were sentenced to the Boot Camp program, which provides a rigorous, military-style schedule along with special educational and orientation programs designed to give them the tools needed to successfully re-enter the community, with the hopes and likelihood that they will not re-offend in the future.
“Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation has a responsibility to help keep Miami-Dade County a safe environment in which to live, work, and play,” said Director Daniel Junior. “Our mission, as agents of change, is to help our cadets with technical proficiencies, education, life skills, and the confidence to reintegrate into their communities, find jobs, and become productive members of society.”
The Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department Boot Camp Program has resulted in a consistently low recidivism rate for its graduates – currently at 11 percent. This means that nearly 90 percent of all graduates are able to turn their lives around thanks to the training and mentoring they receive through the Boot Camp program.
“The Boot Camp program is one of our success stories and a source of enormous pride,” said the Honorable Nushin G. Sayfie, Administrative Judge of the Criminal Division. “When these young men and women leave Boot Camp, they are completely new individuals – respectful, confident, law-abiding, proud of themselves and thankful for the chance they have been given. Those of us in the courtroom are very grateful to the county and to the Department of Corrections for providing an option that truly benefits the entire Miami-Dade Community.”
