COVID-19 Advisory #19: Administrative Order 20-11 Extends Closure of Court Facilities to In-Person Proceedings Until Further Notice, with Exceptions

Following the guidance of the Florida Supreme Court and in order to reduce the person-to-person transmission of coronavirus disease COVID-19, the Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the Miami-Dade Courts, has issued Administrative Order 20-11, extending the closure of court facilities to in-person proceedings until further notice, with the following exceptions:

  • Public access to court facilities will be permitted for mission-critical matters, and by order of the Administrative Judge in circumstances that require in-person appearance in the interest of justice

  • Public access to court facilities will be permitted for payment of registry deposits with the Clerk of Courts

Those visiting the courts in person for the exceptions listed above must follow procedures established to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Persons must wear face masks in order to enter a court facility
  • Persons must maintain social distance of six (6) feet or more from one another
  • Persons must undergo required temperature checks at each court facility

Except for the exceptions listed above, public access to the courts continues to be suspended until further notice.

Court proceedings that can be conducted remotely via telephone or video technology continue to take place.
