Dade County Courthouse to Reopen on December 6, 2021

The Dade County Courthouse at 73 West Flagler Street, closed since July due to structural safety concerns, will reopen to the public on December 6, 2021.

Based upon further structural testing conducted over the past few months by engineers hired by Miami-Dade County and the conclusions they have reached, the County’s Internal Services Department has assured the Miami-Dade Courts that the building is structurally sound and may be re-occupied and return to normal court operations.

The testing was conducted based upon a July 6 report that recommended partial closure of the building and further analysis. In the interest of safety, Chief Judge Nushin G. Sayfie closed the entire building upon receiving the report on July 12, with court operations continuing at alternate locations. She and court leaders requested more thorough testing of the structure, with particular attention to the basement columns.

“Our first priority was and continues to be the safety of all who work at and visit the Dade County Courthouse,” said Chief Judge Sayfie. “Based upon the assurances we have received from the County that the building is safe, we are happy to be able to reopen the Dade County Courthouse and resume normal operations there beginning December 6th.”

“I am especially grateful to the clerks, as well as the judges and court staff, who worked at alternate locations during the closure so that we could continue to provide justice to our community during this time,” she said.

Remote court proceedings via Zoom will continue when appropriate under all previously issued Administrative Orders and Memorandums, viewable here.

Questions regarding whether a court proceeding will be on Zoom or live should be directed to the presiding judge. A directory of all Miami-Dade Courts judges may be found here.
