This year, in honor of Women’s History Month, we recognize Judge Edith Atkinson, who was the first female circuit judge here in the Eleventh Circuit, where she served in the juvenile court from 1924 to 1932.
Previously, as an attorney, she held the historic distinction of being the first woman to argue a case before a Dade jury and obtain a winning verdict.
Judge Atkinson’s dedication to expanding opportunities for girls led her to establish the Girl Scouts Council of Dade County in 1929.
