Today, we honor former Chief Court Specialist Larry Chester, not only for his many years of distinguished service to the Miami-Dade Courts but also for his bravery and sacrifice in service to our country, for which he was recognized with the deeply symbolic Purple Heart Medal.
The Purple Heart is the oldest military recognition still in use, awarded to those who have been wounded or killed in combat. Originally known as the “Badge of Military Merit,” it was established by General George Washington in 1782 during the Revolutionary War.
