In Memoriam: Retired Circuit Court Judge William Johnson

In Memory of Retired Circuit Judge

William Johnson

The Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida joins family members and friends in mourning the passing of Retired Judge William Johnson, who served on the Circuit Court Bench from 1997 to 2010.

Judge Johnson was appointed in 1997 by then-Governor Lawton Chiles to the Circuit Court, where he served with distinction in the juvenile division until his retirement in 2010.

Before joining the Eleventh Circuit, Judge Johnson served for 20 years as a judge in the Office of Judges of Compensation Claims from 1977 to 1997, and he worked with the law firm of Kaplan Dorsey, Sicking, and Hessen, P.A. prior to that.

Judge Johnson was a graduate of Rollins College and the University of Miami School of Law, where he won numerous book awards and honors.

In addition to his work on the Bench, he also served on numerous boards, community organizations, bar associations and committees, serving on the Supreme Court Committee for Juvenile Courts and as President of the Conference of Judges of Compensation Claims. Judge Johnson devoted 33 and a half years of service as either a Circuit Judge or Judge of Compensation Claims.

The Eleventh Circuit family will deeply miss Judge Johnson and will always remember him for his devotion to the law, and his contributions to our courts and our community.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025,  at 12:00pm at the Historic St. John AME Church. The address is 6461 SW 59th Place, South Miami, FL 33143. A repast will immediately follow the service.
