FAQs for Dependency Treatment Court

What is DTC?

The Dependency Treatment Court (DTC) is a voluntary program that addresses substance abuse problems that co-exist in parents involved in Dependency Court. DTC provides intensive assessment, case management, therapeutic and crisis intervention services in collaboration with the Department of Children & Families, Our Kids and a number of community service providers.

Who can participate in DTC?

Parents with dependency cases assigned to Division Three (3) dockets that have coexisting alcohol or drug related problems.

How are referrals initiated?

Eligible parents can be referred by the Judge, attorneys, or by the parent(s) themselves.

What kinds of referrals include case management?

  • Substance abuse and/or mental health treatment
  • Trauma and domestic violence counseling
  • Family and/or couples therapy
  • Parenting classes
  • Educational/vocational training
  • Housing
  • Health/medical assessments and family planning
  • Psychological and/or parenting capacity assessments
  • Children’s developmental assessments
  • Children’s psychological and/or psycho-educational assessments
  • Children’s counseling/play therapy
