A. Policies and Procedures:
1. All Orders must be submitted in PDF.
2. All Orders must include the Name or Initials of the child or children if any, for correct e-filing.
3. All parties must be copied on all Orders submitted to the Judge for signature.
4. All communications with the judicial office must comply with Canon 3 of the Code of Judicial Conduct, which prohibits a Judge from initiating, permitting, or considering ex parte communications and from considering other communications outside the presence of the parties concerning a pending or impending proceeding unless authorized by law. All parties must be copied on any email directed to the judicial office.
B. Emergency Hearings:
1. If a party believes there is a factual basis for setting an emergency hearing, a detailed motion setting forth the following must be filed: (1) the issues to be resolved; (2) the reason(s) why an emergency hearing is necessary; and (3) the amount of time needed.
To set an Emergency Motion on calendar, please send an email with the filed emergency motion to the Judicial Assistant at iacosta@jud11.flcourts.org, including all parties involved in the case. Once the Judge reviews the emergency motion and makes a determination, the Judicial Assistant will provide a hearing date and time via email. The moving party must file a Notice of Hearing upon receiving a hearing date from the Court.

The 5-minute Motion Calendar for Division FC202 is held on Fridays at 9:30am. To set a case on the five (5) minute motion calendar, the Motion must be filed with the Clerk of Court. Once the Motion has been filed, you may contact the Judicial Assistant by sending an email to iacosta@jud11.flcourts.org. Include the Motion you are requesting to be set and copy all parties. The Judicial Assistant will provide available hearing dates via email. The moving party must file a Notice of Hearing upon receiving a hearing date from the Court.
If self-represented, motions may be filed with the assistance of the Family Court Self Help Program, located at Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse Center, 175 NW 1st Avenue, 24th Floor, Miami, FL 33128, 305-349-7800.
The moving party that requests a hearing must electronically file a Notice of Cancellation with the Clerk of Court if the hearing that has been requested is cancelled. A copy of the filed Notice of Cancellation must be sent via email to the Judicial Assistant at iacosta@jud11.flcourts.org before the scheduled hearing date and time.
Go to courtMAPTrial weeks for Division 202 are scheduled the first and third week of every month. When a case is ready to be set for trial, after the parties have already attended mediation, file a Notice of Trial and send it via email to the Judicial Assistant at iacosta@jud11.flcourts.org. Include the amount of time being requested for trial, when the parties attended mediation, and be sure to copy all parties involved in the case. The Judicial Assistant will provide available trial dates via email. Once dates are agreed upon by all parties, you will receive an Order Setting Trial via CourtMAP.
A case will not be set for trial if the parties have not attended mediation. If an Order of Referral to Mediation is needed, please send an email to the Judicial Assistant requesting one.
